The Old Man and the Maps

I was walking on a side road next to a highway. I saw a scraggly old man behind me. He was wearing a lumberjack shirt with jeans and cowboy boots. He came walking up next to me and said, “I like it when the cars drive by the side of the road.” As he was talking I was looking at the cars that were going by on the highway. I remember there was a truck on the inner lane and cars on the outer lane. He said “I like it when the cars drive on the side of the road because they throw out their old maps, and I like to collect them.” I saw a map being tossed out of the window as the car went by.

Next, I was walking on a gravel road and there was someone walking with me. I don’t remember what the person looked like. That scraggly guy showed up again walking from behind us. As he passed us, the guy walking with me said that guy is not a good guy. He’s a murderer or he may have killed someone. I then felt like we should keep our distance and not walk with him.

As we were walking we came to an area where there were trees and a few large storage containers. I saw young people wearing work clothes and masks. They were the kind of clothes you would use to gut houses. The young people were inside the containers. Also in the containers were large round metal-rimmed barrels filled with all different types and sizes of maps. They looked like atlas maps and were rolled up. The young workers were in the process of emptying them. They were going to throw the maps away.

The old man was leaning on something watching them and he told the young people, “Yeah you can throw those away, I know where I can get some more.”

In this dream the cars on the road represent people living their lives. The maps represent people’s destiny, direction and purpose in life. The old man represents the evil one. The person who I could not identify was a messenger from God who revealed the true character of the old man to me. Notice that people are abandoning their hopes and dreams in their lives in great numbers. The enemy desires to collect them and render our lives meaningless. The young workers represent the church. They have care of the discarded dreams. The enemy is trying to deceive the church and get them to participate in destroying people’s dreams. The church is listening to the wrong counsel. But notice the destiny, direction and purpose of people’s lives, even though they have been discarded are still in the care of the church. The church through the power of God can be used to restore people’s dreams.
